Santa Fe Legacy

November 29, 2013 - January 31, 2014

Although Scheinbaum & Russek’s primary focus and identity has been on photography, in our formative years we exhibited both photography and printmaking. We are glad to be returning to our roots honoring Santa Fe’s rich artistic legacy and the legendary artists that lived and worked here.

Both David and Janet have a special affinity to traditional printmaking. Janet Russek studied printmaking before taking up photography, and both David Scheinbaum and Janet shared a mentor, Mohammed Omer Khalil, a master printmaker, who both by his work and his dedication to art inspired them in their early artistic endeavors.

We are extremely proud to curate an exhibition that celebrates some of the legendary artists working in Santa Fe from the 1920’s to the early 1980’s in photography and printmaking. This exhibition celebrates the work of Gustave Baumann, Gerald Cassidy, Louie Ewing, Laura Gilpin, Kate Krasin, Eliot Porter and Todd Webb.

One of the highlights included in this exhibition is a full set of woodblocks by Gustave Baumann from his wonderful image, A Lilac Year, 1951.  There is also a rare holiday card from Gerald Cassidy from the 1920’s, as well as a group of early platinum and silver prints by Laura Gilpin. Also on view are dye transfer prints by Eliot Porter and a select group of serigraphs by Louie Ewing and Kate Krasin.
